The Trek Rail+ is Trek's long-travel electric mountain bike, designed for enduro and for climbing where others can't. All four versions share the same heart: a Bosch Performance Line CX motor with up to 120 Nm and an 800 Wh removable battery, with a 29" front wheel and a 27.5" rear wheel (27.5" front and rear on size S). What changes is the frame, suspension, drivetrain and brakes.

Same motor and same battery across the range
Choosing a more expensive Rail+ does not give you more assistance or more range: they all have the Bosch Performance Line CX and the 800 Wh battery. What you pay for as you move up is how the bike descends and brakes, and how much it weighs.
Trek Rail+ 5: the entry point
The Rail+ 5 Gen 5 has a RockShox Psylo fork, a 12-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain and 4-piston Shimano brakes. It has everything you need to get started in electric enduro with the same motor as its bigger siblings.
Trek Rail+ 8: enduro suspension
The Rail+ 8 Gen 5 steps up to a RockShox ZEB fork, stiffer and more precise on fast descents, Shimano XT shifting, SRAM DB8 brakes and wider tyres with a better compound. For a closer look, we have a full review of the Rail+ 8 Gen 5.
Trek Rail+ 9.7: the jump to carbon
The Rail+ 9.7 Gen 5 has the same build as the Rail+ 8 with an OCLV Mountain carbon main frame. It weighs 1.35 kg less, the biggest weight difference in the range.
Trek Rail+ 9.8 GX AXS: top of the range
The Rail+ 9.8 GX AXS Gen 5 has Fox Performance Elite suspension, a SRAM GX Eagle AXS T-Type wireless electronic drivetrain and SRAM Maven brakes, the most powerful in the range.
