The Trek Checkpoint+ SL is Trek's electric gravel bike: an OCLV Series 500 carbon frame with the 60 Nm TQ HPR60 motor and a 360 Wh battery integrated into the down tube, designed to extend your rides without losing the feel of a real gravel bike. All three models share the frame, motor and battery; what changes is the drivetrain and the wheels.

Same frame, same motor and same battery
Choosing a more expensive Checkpoint+ does not give you more assistance or more range: all three have the TQ HPR60 motor, compact and very quiet, with 60 Nm of torque, and the 360 Wh TQ battery. They also share the carbon frame with IsoSpeed, which filters out vibration from the ground, the mounts for bags and mudguards and the 42 mm tyres. The price difference is in the shifting and the wheels.
Trek Checkpoint+ SL 5: the entry point
The Checkpoint+ SL 5 has a mechanical 12-speed Shimano GRX RX820 drivetrain with a 10-51 cassette and aluminium Bontrager Paradigm Comp 25 wheels. It is the most logical option if you want everything that matters (frame, motor and battery) at the best price and prefer the simplicity of mechanical shifting, with no derailleur batteries to charge.
Trek Checkpoint+ SL 6 AXS: the step up to electronic shifting
The Checkpoint+ SL 6 AXS keeps the aluminium wheels and moves to wireless electronic shifting: SRAM Rival AXS levers and a GX Eagle AXS rear derailleur with a 10-52 cassette. Shifting is faster and more precise, with no cables to adjust, and the gear range is slightly wider for long climbs on a loaded bike.
Trek Checkpoint+ SL 7 AXS: carbon wheels and a higher-level groupset
The Checkpoint+ SL 7 AXS is the top of the range: SRAM Force AXS levers, an X0 Eagle AXS derailleur and Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35V OCLV carbon wheels. It is the choice for those who want the best shifting feel and stiffer, more responsive wheels for riding fast.
Which one should you choose?
- Checkpoint+ SL 5: if you want the best balance of price and performance and like mechanical shifting.
- Checkpoint+ SL 6 AXS: if you value wireless electronic shifting and don't need carbon wheels.
- Checkpoint+ SL 7 AXS: if you want the most complete build, with carbon wheels.
