The Trek Domane is Trek's endurance road bike: a slightly more upright position than a race bike and a frame designed for many hours on good and bad tarmac. The current range has three levels: Domane AL in aluminium, Domane SL in OCLV 500 carbon and Domane SLR in OCLV 900 carbon, the last two now in their fifth generation.

Domane AL: aluminium with a carbon fork
All three Domane AL models share an aluminium frame and 32 mm tyres, more comfortable than those of a traditional road bike. The Domane AL 2 Gen 4 has Shimano Claris and mechanical disc brakes, and is the entry point. The AL 4 steps up to Shimano Tiagra with hydraulic brakes, and the AL 5 to 12-speed Shimano 105, the same groupset as the carbon SL 5.
Domane SL Gen 5: carbon for most riders
The Domane SL 5 is the most affordable carbon model in the range, with mechanical Shimano 105, and weighs almost a kilo less than the AL 5. The SL 6 AXS moves to SRAM Rival AXS wireless electronic shifting and 50 mm deep carbon wheels. The SL 7 AXS 1x has SRAM Force XPLR AXS with a single chainring and 13 speeds, a setup designed for riding on gravel roads too.
Domane SLR Gen 5: the lightest
The Domane SLR uses OCLV 900 carbon, Trek's lightest. The SLR 7 is available with Shimano Ultegra Di2 or SRAM Force AXS, and the SLR 9 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM RED AXS and Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51 wheels.
What about the Domane SL Gen 4?
The previous generation of the SL is still available while stocks last and keeps the IsoSpeed system, which absorbs vibration. You can see the Domane SL 5 Gen 4, the SL 6 Gen 4 and the SL 7 Gen 4.
Which Trek Domane should you choose?

- Long rides and sportives: the Domane SL 5.
- If you want electronic shifting: the Domane SL 6 AXS.
- The best build: the Domane SLR 7 or SLR 9.
