The Marlin is Trek's hardtail mountain bike for getting started and progressing. All four versions share the Alpha Silver aluminium frame; what changes is the drivetrain, fork, wheels and brakes.

Version Drivetrain Fork Wheels Brakes
Marlin 4 Shimano ESSA, 8-speed Suntour XCE 28 Connection Tektro or Power
Marlin 5 Shimano CUES, 9-speed Suntour XCT 30 Connection Shimano MT200
Marlin 6 Shimano CUES, 10-speed RockShox Judy Kovee TLR Shimano MT200
Marlin 7 SRAM Eagle, 12-speed RockShox Judy Silver, air Kovee TLR Shimano MT200

Which one to choose

Marlin 4 or 5 if you'll ride tracks and gravel roads. Marlin 6 if you want to start on singletrack: it gains a RockShox fork and tubeless-ready rims. Marlin 7 if you already ride often: the air fork adjusts to your weight and the 12 gears give more range for climbing.

Looking for electric assistance? The Marlin+ 8 has a Bosch Active Line Plus motor and a 400 Wh battery.
